The Evening Heron is an open-access poetry publication that is committed to no-cost access to issues, and no-cost submissions. This commitment aligns with our mission statement which engenders the reach of poetry in our every day lives. We view the engagement with poetry as important as ever, thus easing the common barriers to poetry and poetic thought is of the utmost importance to our efforts.
We believe in the propensity for radical change that poetry imposes at the societal level, as such we will always encourage submissions from marginalised and progressive voices who are passionate at the prospect of reinvigorating leftist thought through the written form.
In contemporary fashion we will ensure issues may always be accessible online for the preservation of past issues and accessibility to current ones. It is important for The Evening Heron to be disseminated physically, hence our allegiance to the newspaper format which has been co-opted by far-right big-media, particularly in Australia (where the publication operates from). Our goal is accomplished by the efforts of the collective. Our issues will not be sold, they will be shared and released to the public for equal access. Poetry for all, no excuses. We relate to the current economic strife many of our readers experience and promise to make quality curated poetry an accessible avenue for one to engage freely with their own creative mode of being.
We are independently run and funded. Our open-access model is made possible by voluntary donations. Fiscal contributions will directly flow into the maintenance of the project and the printing related costs of each issue. These costs will be made public upon the release of each issue for transparency. Any excess revenue generated will count toward prize pools and returned to the contributors of each issue. There are many ways to contribute and we encourage readers to share the publication freely and follow us on social media, if they are in a position to do so. We humbly thank anyone who considers donating to the efforts outlined above.
